Details and News:

What a great campout everyone!  Thank you for taking the time (parents - it's a lot of hard work to pack up and get ready, you are awesome!) to make this memorable event for your children.  It was fabulous to have our new families join us and a great opportunity to make new friends and connect with others before class starts on Tuesday.  We hope those of you who missed the trip due to sickness are feeling better and getting healthy.

We are looking forward to beginning our classes next week!  We will be getting messy with an activity our first week, please don’t dress fancy.

Costume Parade and Fall Celebration/Craft Day!

This year our Halloween Extravaganza is on Thursday, October 27

This is a parent participation day : )  We welcome parent volunteers to lead crafts.  It is helpful to have 4 or 5 “stations” with a different craft at each table or room.  We can use 2-4 parent helpers at each station.  The crafting will start at around 11:00am.  The festivities will end at 1:30pm

Please indicate on the sign-up sheet (located in the Resource Library on the bookshelf next to the fridge) if you would like to lead a craft or assist.

  • Just a Reminder:  All costumes must be in good taste and safely constructed so that they do not interfere with safety.  Gruesome costumes and bloody, fake wounds are not appropriate for a school with young participants.  Weapons (including "fakes" made from cardboard, plastic, wood, etc.), skateboards and roller blades/skates are not allowed as part of costumes at school.

Here is a rough schedule of how our day will look ~

9:30 gather and gawk at each other : )

10:00 "parade" and pictures

10:30 snack

11:00 - 1:30 crafting/lunch/outside play - pick up time

A Fun Fundraising Event

Santa Cruz Mountain Harvest Festival

Saturday, September 24

This is so last minute and so exciting!!! The awesome people running the the Santa Cruz Mountain Harvest Festival had a last minute opening and we are in!! We will be selling pumpkins and (hopefully!) baked goods. It is only one week away! Can you help out with baking something yummy and/or putting in time at our table? (Would love your homemade banana bread, pumpkin bread, lemon bars, muffins or cookies) We will be in the Junction Park location with all the kiddie related tables and petting zoo. This should be a great opportunity to make money for our program and be super fun too!   The event is Saturday September 24th from 11-6 with two Boulder Creek locations just a few blocks apart. We must set up at 9:30 in the morning at our Junction park table. Anyone have a van or truck and time this week to go get pumpkins with me? Anyone know where I can get hay bales?

What we need:

1) 2-4 parents (and kids) and a van or truck to head up to get pumpkins this week TBD…

   possibly Wednesday or Thursday.

2) 2-3 parents to set up at 9:30 on the 24th

3) 6 parents to volunteer to sell. Three of them 11-2:30 and three 2:30-6:00.

4) EVERYONE bake yummy stuff and drop it off either to the Junction by 11:00 on Saturday or  to the school by Friday at 2:00. (Or whenever you get there...if you show up later to drop off at the fest we would not refuse your awesome baked goods. Just send me an email or text so I know what's coming.)

This event is super sweet local awesomeness. We are very fortunate to have this chance. Let's rock it guys!! Email me with your availability and what you are going to bake. Thanks so so much!!

Begin with the Brain:  Three Things Parents Need to Know  Presenter: Martha Kaufeldt

Do you often wonder what is going on inside your child or teen’s developing brain? What are some things that parents can do to encourage and motivate learning and curiosity in their children? Come and learn from a veteran “neuro-educator,” author, presenter, parent educator, and charter teacher!

  1. Discover how stress levels, too much pressure and over-scheduling can often minimize learning.

  2. Learn how multi-sensory first-hand experiences can promote brain growth and development at any age!

  3. “Use It or Lose It” is true! To maximize learning, 21st Century students need to actively process in a variety of ways!

No matter if your child is in pre-school or high school, you will find these ideas thought provoking and leave with several new parenting strategies. This 90 minute presentation begins with a thought-provoking overview of how too much stress and pressure can hi-jack children’s brains and minimize learning. This entertaining session will also encourage quick reflections and discussions.  A short Q & A will follow the presentation.
